Blog Assignment 2

I've really got myself caught in this one! Actually I would like to clean up every single item in my home and make sure that there is no needless stuff left. And I also would like to know that I never ever shop unnecessary stuff again.... but I know it would be to lie to myself of course!!!
Could this really be true? Cause if, I'm really disturbed no one actually acted before! You keep hearing the forest is in danger, the ice is melting, the air is toxic, the fish is placed under protection... and I really didn’t think that all this mess happened because of a green radio!!!! How could this world change for such a short time? Look back to the 18: th century, how did people live? Did they compete with each other, who has the most and coolest stuff? Was our world really ill back then?
Is it really that important to earn so much money to buy everything we need, everything we wants or make it possible to shop even though we don't even needs it or actually wants it? I'm sure everybody could do something for the world, and I'm also convinced there are people out there who could do a lot, and I think they know who they are...

“Look back to the 18: th century, how did people live? Did they compete with each other, who has the most and coolest stuff?”

Yes, they probably did but with simpler stuff. The competition has developed society to where we stand today, but I think just like you and Annie Leonard that we have reached the point where we need to stop.

Usually when I get new stuff I toss out the old one, sometimes even fully working stuff. Nowadays I try to sell it before I throw it away. The reusing market has grown larger due to the financial crisis and the market itself spares the environment. The next step for me should be to not buy anything new until the old one actually breaks.

You've written a text with a good flow and a striking power. To me it seems like you've really adopted this "new" way of living. I wish you good luck on that and hope you continue to spread the word. To answer your question about how the world could change so quickly: I do not think it did. It probably started during the stone age when humans became collectors. The great collectors were probably not as greedy as today's but they certainly had an advantage when it came to dating.

Interesting blog, I can say that it is basically the opposite of what I have written. But I think it's good with people like you on earth. Someone has to correct the errors that people like I do.

I really like you reaction on the movie. Thats how I would like everyone to react. I think everyone would see this movie by Annie Leonard.

I think its great that your reaction of the movie was that strong. Hope there are more people out there reacting the same way. In my point of view the "problem" is far from new. Maybe thats because ill been reading a lot about it. But offcourse its a lot more fun watching a cartoon than reading the newspaper or watching the news. May some people say. Good luck in your new way of living!

Of course I was aware of this problem even before watching the movie "story of stuff", but in some kind of way this opened up my eyes even more, and I felt like there really IS something I can do about it. Before I thought that we were already doing what we could. (Sweden actually involves a lot more than the majority of the world does, like asia, america ...)
But I think it will be hard even for me to make a drastical change. But somewhere I heard that "it is the small things that counts".

Well that's a relief that your not one of those people that blindly just say " hey I wont consume anymore". It's a scary fact that were stuck in this system. Maybe there is a another solution to the problem, then just stop consuming because let's face it, we might contribute to bad things but at the same time were the reason that they can put food on the table. So it's a hard issue...

Hello there,
Are you hanging in there with your new lifestyle;), no unnecessary gifts for christmas?
I can see your point when watching this movie. I as well react on it but my issue here is that after a while it disappears among all other million things in your head.
Why is it so difficult to change?
